Abilene insurance company owner arrested for failing to apply payments
The owner of insurance agency Abilene was arrested Wednesday on third-degree theft after admitting to stealing more than $ 51,500 from a client, court documents show.
Owner Leslie Oliver said he was “engaged in a ‘affair’ and” admitted receiving the payments, but never applied them “to policies intended to insure multiple Abilene companies, the documents said.
In August, a property manager of the companies said he made payments to the Abilene insurance agency on behalf of the owner of “several entities” that he managed.
The payments were made between late 2020 and early 2021, according to court documents.
After being dissatisfied with the service received from the Abilene insurance agency, the manager began to request quotes from other providers.
During this time “he learned that the businesses he managed were uninsured” and that the payments made had “never been applied”, according to the documents.
Oliver, instead, allegedly deposited and held the funds, according to the documents.
Taylor County Jail records show Oliver was released on Wednesday on $ 15,000 bail.
