Creator-entrepreneur Deepak Pareek explains why college students should start building their personal brand

“What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I talk about Nike or Apple? It is their mark. Now, when I talk about Virat Kohli, what is the first thing that comes to mind? It is his personal brand,” said content creator and entrepreneur Deepak Pareek at the AIESEC Youth Speak Forum organized by AIESEC in Noida. The event brought together speakers from various fields and each speaker shared their thoughts on topics such as personality development, personal branding, quality education, entrepreneurship and mental health.

Deepak Pareek participated as the keynote speaker at the event and he talked about personal branding. “I discovered the term ‘personal branding’ very late in my life. It actually happened when I was running Career Keeda, my first company, and I realized people didn’t know me,” Deepak said during his speech. He used to face many difficulties while running the company because his personal brand was not strong enough. It was in 2018 that he started getting serious about personal branding, he started creating content online and started speaking his thoughts out in the open. Soon, he realized how important personal branding was, and as a result, many opportunities began to open up. “I had always dreamed of giving a TEDx talk growing up and it happened because I put myself there, all through personal branding,” said Deepak Pareek, entrepreneur, content creator , TEDx speaker and creative film producer from Kolkata. and now based in Mumbai, India.

One of Deepak’s most frequent questions was “how to speak confidently on stage and how to fight stage fright?” to which he said, “you have to get on stage, go to events and keep doing it. Of course, the first event will be a flop and so will mine. Remember one thing, confidence comes from the progress you make”. He then went on to talk about how his life had taken a 360 degree turn just because he started focusing on personal branding. Deepak also said that it is imperative for students to start building their personal brand for two important reasons: credibility and visibility. He said that when someone shows up, they start to grow their audience and therefore build their credibility.

The main session ended on a high note and Deepak Pareek, who went on to study at Don Bosco School in Calcutta, graduated from St. Xavier’s College in Calcutta and obtained his Masters in Management and Entrepreneurship from University of Southampton Business School, UK, was commended by AIESEC Central Committee members in Noida. Deepak also had a casual chat with the audience members after his speech and interacted with them on various relevant topics/issues including personal branding, social media, etc.
