Entrepreneur Opens 4 Businesses in Downtown Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – In recent years, the Downtown Hattiesburg Association has worked hard to revitalize the area, and Nelson Haskin Jr. is a business owner who has worked with them to bring businesses downtown.

“I mean, it was never really my goal to have four restaurants, but I consider them all to be one big restaurant since we’re all within walking distance. So I sort of deal with things from this way,” Haskin said.

Recently, Haskin reopened his fourth business, Blu Jazz Cafe, downtown. It is also on the same block on Front Street.

“Okay, we have the Blu Jazz Café. …. First (was) Nellie’s Chicken in Daiquiris, Bagel and coffee heading south and hattiesburgers and blues“, Haskin said.

Andrea Saffle is the Executive Director of Downtown Hattiesburg. She says she’s glad Haskin and his businesses are part of downtown.

“You know, he has good ideas. He is very careful about each of his businesses and how he goes about opening up and making sure each one has something specific to offer,” says Saffle.

Saffle says she’s always on the lookout for other creative entrepreneurs to add to Downtown. Haskin says he always tells people about the good things about the area.

“I’ve spoken to several people across the city about what’s going on downtown, and I always say downtown is open for business,” Haskins said.

Saffle says if you’re interested in bringing your business downtown, you can contact her by emailing [email protected]
