Filipino entrepreneur and producer Tommie Mopia named Gawad Amerika Outstanding Young Entrepreneur 2022 – Manila Bulletin
US-based Filipino businessman Tommie Mopia is this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Young Entrepreneur Award 2022 from Gawad Amerika. He is the originator of a healthcare company that started in 2016. a lot for me. My heart is full and grateful to be recognized for my work and contribution to the Filipino-American community in the United States. It gives me inspiration to pursue more.
To date, Tommie’s business has expanded to two other palliative care agencies. He recently acquired a home health agency that employs hundreds of healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed professional nurses and others.
In 2018, the 2022 Gawad Amerika recipient founded the TGM Group of Companies, Inc. TGM is taking a different path by managing and producing gigs for Filipino and international artists.
Mopia joked, “I’m one of the youngest executive producers and co-producers to do live gigs all over Southern California, Las Vegas and Hawaii. I worked with artists like Jake Zyrus, Jed Madela, Lani Misalucha, Nonoy Zuñiga, etc.
“Successful entrepreneurs always put 110% of their effort into everything they do in their chosen field of business,” explained the award-winning businessman.
“If you know you’re doing your best, you’ll never have any reason to regret. Focus on the things you can control. Stay focused on your efforts and let the results be your judge. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes. You will know if you are satisfied with the work you are doing and if you have given the best of yourself. He emphasized the promotion of excellence.
At such a young age, Mopia is living the life many people yearn for. With his experience and business know-how, he conquered the health industry. His true power is backed by the fact that he is surrounded by family and friends who support and believe in him. To young entrepreneurs, he said, “Live the life of your dreams. Don’t stop dreaming. Chase the dream until you get it. Obstacles, doubters, mistakes and setbacks are expected along the way. Mopia wishes to remind those on the same track that there is no limit to what can be achieved with hard work, perseverance and personal drive. Success, he says, is the best revenge for opponents.
He also added, “Prove them wrong by setting and achieving high standards for your business. Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you think, and more capable than you imagine. Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.
Mopia is an Aklan native who moved to the United States 13 years ago. A lot has happened since he crossed over to the other side of the globe thanks to his mother’s petition in 2009. After more than a decade of adjusting, adapting and exploring the stranger, our proud kababayan has TGM Group of Companies Inc., St. Anthony Hospice, CB Hospice, Tram Hospice, Quad Care Hospice and Comprehensive Healthcare Services to its credit. In these acquisitions he takes so much pride, especially as an immigrant.
“Being Filipino-American living in Los Angeles, I am one of the minorities. I constantly need to prove what I can offer,” Mopia admitted. With the rise in cases of Asian hate, he added : “I strive to pave the way for others to respect and recognize our presence. If the majority sees that you contribute to the workforce, shape their economy by stimulating job placements and work opportunities , it means a lot. He reminded that it is necessary to contribute to society, to assert your presence, to cooperate with others and to simply spread kindness.
“Know how you can help the community, give them resources regardless of skin color, age, sexuality and religion. Be that highway that connects everyone leading to a better working community,” concluded Mopia with a smile.
