Hit by a car in GK 1, businessman seriously injured; runaway driver

A 37-year-old businessman was seriously injured after a car hit him in Greater Kailash-I. The driver, a law student in his twenties, managed to get away and has not yet been arrested.

The family of the victim, identified as Anand Vijay Mandelia, said he suffered multiple head injuries and was on life support at Max Hospital in Saket.

Police said they received a call about a hit-and-run accident around 6 p.m. Tuesday. A mustard Volkswagen hit Mandelia outside her house. Witnesses said the driver dragged him on the hood for nearly 200 meters before fleeing.

DCP (South) Benita Mary Jaiker said one case under sections of reckless driving and causing serious injury has been registered. “We have seized the offending vehicle and are conducting raids to arrest the accused,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mandelia’s family alleged the defendant hit him with “intent to kill”. “Anand was out for a walk when he saw two boys in a speeding car. He warned them and said dheere chalao. This pissed them off and they hit him. He fell on the hood, but they did not stop and dragged him for 200 meters…”, said a relative on condition of anonymity.

Mandelia runs a hydroponics business and lives with her family in GK-I.
