Iconic Miller’s Bar in Dearborn listed for sale

Michigan’s iconic Miller’s Bar in Dearborn is for sale, according to a listing on Loopnet.com.

In business since 1941, Miller’s is known for its famous, no-frills, ground round burgers served on waxed paper. Its burgers have received numerous accolades both locally and nationally.

The building, the restaurant and its contents are for sale. Miller’s liquor license is also included in the sale. Inside are two dining rooms, a bar area and a banquet room that can accommodate 50 people.

The owners, according to the announcement, are planning to retire. State records list Dennis Miller and Mark Miller as officers and directors of the bar.

Dennis Miller, listed as co-owner in a 2008 Free Press article, said the business was started by his uncle. His father, Russell Miller, “made him what he is.”

Consistency is the secret to burgers, Miller said. Each is 7 ounces of fresh ground round and is made to order.

Miller was featured in a recent CBS News segment on the global auto semiconductor shortage and its impact on local businesses and the auto industry. Miller estimated, according to the CBS segment, that 60% of its business is related to the automotive industry. Ford employee traffic is likely reduced because workers are working from home.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, burgers were served with a platter of condiments, pickles and onions. Now pickles and onions, on request, are served with the burger.

The customer crowd often included Ford employees and families with their children.

“They are looking for the next owner with a vision to take over and continue the momentum of the bar but also put their mark on it for the future,” according to the announcement.

Also included in the sale are rental income from the apartments on the upper level and a living room next door. A sale price has not been indicated.

Miller’s Bar is located at 23700 Michigan Ave. It is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. according to its website, and closed on Sundays. The owners could not be reached for comment.
