St. Lawrence College is pleased to announce that it will present Mr. Eleanor McGrath, farmer and owner of Springfield Farm Organics in Apple Hill, with an honorary degree. Eleanor will address the graduating students of St. Lawrence College at the 4:30 p.m. graduation ceremony at the Aultsville Theater on Friday, June 3.
Named South Glengarry’s 2018 Citizen of the Year, Eleanor is a proud member of the local farming community and a strong supporter of agri-tourism and environmental responsibility. She maintains close ties with St. Lawrence College and continues to involve SLC students in several projects on her farm to help them gain valuable work experience while applying what they have learned in the classroom and by making connections within the community. Eleanor is very collaborative and often invites SLC students to be part of the team to create new projects on her farm.
“Receiving this honorary degree from St. Lawrence College is a true gift in recognition of my passion for this community, agriculture, and the incredible opportunity that agritourism offers many farmers to diversify and share their knowledge with a growing number of tourists which shows the many facets of our beautiful region of Akwesasne, Cornwall and the United Counties of SDG,” said Eleanor.
“It is a great honor to recognize Eleanor and her positive impact in our community at our convocation ceremony,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of SLC. “With her insightful stories to share, I know she will be an inspiration to our new graduates.”
