‘More complicated’: Orange County business owner talks about supply chain bottleneck and inflation issues
Ray Aguerrevere, who runs Custom Metal Designs in Orange County, joined presenter Justin Warmoth on “The Weekly at ClickOrlando.com” to break the supply chain bottleneck and its impact on his business.
“Everything just got more complicated,” Aguerrevere said. “Just managing the operation is a logistical nightmare, as the materials that we could previously source in a matter of days or weeks now take up to 30 weeks. “
Some of the issues driving the slowdown include labor shortages, port congestion and overseas manufacturing delays.
Aguerrevere said that while the delays are problematic, he is more concerned about the long-term impact of inflation on the price of materials.
“The 14-gauge steel, of which we buy thousands of sheets per year, cost us about $ 50 a sheet a year ago,” Aguerrevere said. “Today that same piece of metal is costing us $ 250. At the end of the day, who pays for it? The consumer.”
