CLEVELAND – 3News’ Russ Mitchell hosted a municipal forum ahead of the upcoming Cleveland municipal election on Wednesday between Justin Bibb and Kevin Kelley.

Sauce the City owner Victor Searcy Jr. was in attendance at the Wednesday night forum held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, which wanted to know what the two contestants were planning to do for local business owners.

“What economic strategies do you guys have to reassure small business people all over town,” asked Searcy Jr, who calls himself “Chef Vick”. “What will be the impact if one of you becomes mayor?” “

Chef Vick explained that the past year and a half has been a difficult one for his restaurant amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, we were the first to be affected and the last to open up,” said Chief Vick, explaining his reasoning for appearing at the forum.

“I wanted to know where the two candidates were in terms of small business. I really wanted to be there to have a voice and also to stick my ears to these two candidates,” Vick said.

So how did Bibb and Kelley answer Chef Vick’s question?

“The town hall needs to be structured so that we are growing at the speed of businesses that are agile and that is how you will know that you have a mayor at the town hall who is working to make sure you stay afloat in the city and to prosper over the long term as a business owner, ”Bibb said.

“It is essential that we pay attention to those who have been injured the most, it is essential that we pay attention and that we direct separate funds and recovery dollars to those who need them,” Kelley replied.

“In their responses, I sort of got a good sense of the two candidates,” Vick says. “I’m a bit in between.
