The police investigation clears the businessman of any wrongdoing
KARACHI: A criminal case, filed against a Karachi-based businessman, Shahzad Riaz, at Khairpur District Section B Police Station under the Anti-Terror Act and Dacoity Articles, has been found to be false and fictitious during a police investigation.
The filing of cases against businessman Shahzad Riaz at various police stations in Sindh and the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) is a classic example of police atrocities against citizens.
The inquest was ordered on June 16, 2022 by a Divisional Bench of the High Court of Sindh, into the case against Shahzad Riaz, a Karachi-based businessman. According to documentary evidence available with The News, the case was registered by Ali Rehbar Rind, resident of Khairpur district on May 2, 2022, when Shahzad Riaz was behind bars in Sanghar in another case of alleged fraud of 500,000 rupees. Complainant in FIR alleged that Shahzad Riaz on December 29, 2021 snatched a Nokia mobile phone worth Rs 5,000 at gunpoint and created terror by aerial fire on Shah Hussain Bypass in Khairpur district.
DSP Ghulam Ali Jumani, the Investigator, in his report, submitted in Sindh High Court, that the matter was bogus and fabricated and wondered how a big taxpayer businessman in the metropolitan city would come close to 500 kilometers to grab a cell phone. worth Rs5,000. SSP Malik Zafar Iqbal told ‘The News’ that the case was found to be bogus in the investigation, conducted on the orders of the Sindh High Court. He added that if Shahzad Riaz approached Khairpur Police for action against the complainant, then legal action would be taken.
On the other hand, Shahzad Riaz claimed that all the lawsuits against him were filed to please an influential personality. “Some of the cases have already been proven false and fabricated, and the others will also be proven false.” Previously, Riaz was convicted of alleged embezzlement of public funds under “Sindh Tractor Subsidy Scheme” by Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment on January 4, 2022. When Sindh High Court granted him bail on April 29, 2022 and had ordered to release him, Sanghar Police who had registered a fraud case of Rs 500,000 on the same day arrested Riaz from Hyderabad Central Jail.
Shahzad Riaz’s miseries did not end like when he applied for bail and then Khiarpur police registered another case against him under dacoity and terrorism section. Earlier in 2017, Riaz was convicted in the Sindh Tractor Subsidy Scheme case on similar charges and remained in jail for four months before being released on bail by the Sindh High Court. On June 10, 2022, the CSS spoke out against the arrest of a businessman and found that the police and the prosecution had not acted in accordance with the law.
